Honeybees
Our apiary was started in the spring of 2020, after attending Bee School through the Orange County Beekeepers Association.
Our honey comes from the wide variety of nectar sources and the composition depends on the bloom of the local plants during the spring. This kind of honey referred to asĀ “wildflower” honey.
Our bottled honey is provided in two forms: regular (16oz) and creamed (12oz). Creamed honey is 100% pure, unadulterated honey that has undergone a controlled crystallization process, making it thicker and more textured, but still smooth and spreadable.
Both options are $15 per jar or $14 per refill (return an empty bottle). Please specify which option you’re purchasing when you order.
Pickup Instructions
The honey will be available in our honey box the day following your order.
You can pickup the the honey at any time from our honey box located at the end of Wave Road in Chapel Hill, NC, on the left-hand side.
The combination to open the honey box is 3645.
Depending on the time of the year, the creamed honey may be in an insulated box with a cool pack inside. However, it is fine to store at room temperature once you get it home.
Chickens
The Harenhaus is home to a small flock of nine happy hens who till and enrich our gardening soil as they scratch, and who produce a steady supply of fresh homestead eggs!
Dogs
The Harenbergs have one primitive dog and a small collection of field-bred English springer spaniels serving in various roles, both around the homestead and in the community.
Aipa
Aipa is a primitive dog who enjoys hiking, sniffing, and telling everyone else what to do.
Jet
Jet is a scent-discriminating area search K9 operational with Wake Canine Search & Rescue and a pet visitation therapy dog with the Durham VA hospital. He loves raising puppies and is the laziest house pet.
Bebop
Originally acquired as a diabetic alert service dog prospect, Bebop showed incredible talent in the field, amassing 27 puppy points in his first month and a half of competition. We ended up keeping him as a family hunting companion.
Dizzy
Originally trained as a diabetic alert service dog prospect, Dizzy now lives in Seattle with Audrey’s brother and sister-in-law. With only a handful of exposures to birds and guns, Dizzy earned an HRC Started pass and an AKC spaniel field trial puppy stake placement. We plan to borrow her for truffling and bird hunting when we visit!
